Manager

Landscape and Operations Manger(s)

Position: Seasonal; Full-Time, Salary 

Job Dates: Starting ASAP through mid December.
Pay Rate: Depending on Experience


Hocott's is looking for a Landscape/Operations Manager(s) with experience in landscape design to oversee both the landscape project plan and the workers who implement it. Job responsibilities include meeting with clients (or management) to develop or refine plans for the project, which may include ornamental plants, ground cover, and landscaping structures (e.g., walkways, water, and lighting).


Other job duties include estimating costs and negotiating prices for plants, equipment, and employees. The landscape/operations manager(s) will supervise the workers who install and maintain landscaping, including scheduling work crews, planning daily work activities, and monitoring the work being done. Landscape managers may also be responsible for training workers, especially on safety procedures when large equipment or hazardous materials are involved.


The Operations Manager will assist in the following tasks:

  • Start up greenhouse operations

  • Keep detailed records and complete administrative duties

  • Ordering of seeds, plants and fertilizers

  • Irrigation, nutrient and compost management

  • Transplant seedlings to greenhouse and outdoors

  • Manage seasonal crew (3-4 full time employees)

  • Assist with current and new landscape projects, lawncare, garden beds, etc.

  • Garden open and shutdown


Qualifications:

  • Experienced gardener/landscaper with intermediate to advanced plant knowledge of vegetables, annuals, perennials, herbs, berry bushes, trees and shrubs 

  • Working knowledge of organic gardening methods

  • Know how to start and use garden equipment: rototiller, lawnmower and weed-eater 

  • Good management, organizational, and communication skills necessary

  • Be able to plan, prioritize, and orchestrate projects dependent on garden needs, budget, weather, etc.

  • Ability to type and use Microsoft Excel and Word Programs

  • Have a valid driver’s license 

  • Be physically able to lift up to 50 lbs., move pots around, be on knees for much of a day, haul wheelbarrows full of compost and in general good physical health.

  • Be self-motivated and also be able to motivate crew members 

  • Artistic inclinations for landscape design are an advantage

Nursery Sales

Position: Seasonal; Full-Time and Part-Time, Hourly

Job Dates: Approx. March 1, 2017 to June 1, 2017; September 1, 2017 to December 15, 2017

Hocott's is looking to add full-time and part-time seasonal sales staff to help out during the busy Spring and Fall seasons! Nursery Sales staff at Hocott's Garden Center provide professional customer service by assisting with customer projects, assisting with buying decisions and providing accurate and helpful advice. Salespersons are responsible for their own product knowledge, special orders, deliveries and consultations. We are a great team and love what we do.


Job Functions:

  • Provide expert customer service in person, on the phone and via email.

  • Understand and follow proper procedures regarding special orders, deliveries, spoilage, consultations, etc.

  • Always be available to provide courteous and friendly service for all customer needs.

  • Attend all scheduled product knowledge and employee meetings.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to identify and provide care and selection instructions for outdoor plants and gardening products.

  • Excellent written communication on electronic media and paperwork.

  • Ability to operate our inventory and POS system for the functions of sales, customer data, delivery, special orders, etc.

  • Posses an excellent knowledge of plant material including health, quality issues, disease, and pests.

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Ability to walk around the store for up to 8 hours.

  • Ability to lift and move merchandise weighing up to 25 pounds on a regular basis.

  • Ability to communicate and work well with other employees in a team environment.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school graduate or equivalent

  • Certification or Horticulture Degree preferred

  • Previous sales and customer service experience

Landscape Crew

Landscape Construction and Maintenance

Position: Hourly Full-Time & Part-Time

Qualified candidates must:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly in hot, humid weather, rain or shine.

  • Experience unloading and laying sod, planting plants, trees and flowers, digging holes or trenches.

  • Prune or trim trees, shrubs, or hedges using shears, pruners or chain saws

  • Demonstrate and grow knowledge of plant material and landscape installation

  • Assist with input of data from project

  • Communicate effectively with clients and suppliers

  • Provide exceptional client care (customer service)

  • Work effectively with office personnel and crew members

  • Maintain high degree of professionalism

  • Perform tasks, as assigned by Operations Manager

  • Posses a valid Arkansas driver’s license
